Words to Know

Dharmic and cosmological terms that recur across the worldbook.

  1. Anattā

    • The doctrine of “non-self”, that there is no unchanging, permanent self, soul or essence in phenomena
    • [ Possibly through renunciation of the ego ]
  2. Ātman

    • Spirit; inner-self; the spiritual life principle of the universe, especially when regarded as inherent in the real self of the individual
  3. BCE

    Before Cessation Event
  4. Dharma

    • Cosmic law underlying right behavior and social order (Hinduism)
    • An aspect of truth or reality; the nature of reality regarded as a universal truth taught by The Enlightened One; the teaching of (Buddhism)
    • Specific path or course of action that aligns with The Cosmology; duties, rights, laws, conduct, virtues and “right way of living” (Contingent on narrative)
  5. Dukkha

    • Suffering; the fundamental unsatisfactoriness and painfulness of mundane life
  6. Enlightenment

    • Ascension to highest state of awareness and revelation of the meaning of existence; When a being’s insight and mindfulness (sati) burgeons to the point of accessing cosmic knowledge, they achieve a state of awareness that amalgamates with all the awareness present in that entire realm (terrestrial and celestial)
  7. Impermanence

    • (Anitya) asserts that all of conditioned existence, without exception, is “transient, evanescent, inconstant”
    • All physical and mental events, states, even Buddhism, come into being and dissolve. Human life embodies this flux in the aging process, the cycle of repeated birth and death, nothing lasts, and everything decays. This is applicable to all beings and their environs, including beings who have reincarnated in Deva and Narakan realms; This is in contrast to Nirvana that is Nicca, or knows no change, decay or death (freedom from samsāra)
  8. Nirvāna

    • Exhale, blowing out; the ultimate spiritual goal that marks the emancipation from samsāra
    • Part of the third of the four noble truths of “cessation of Dukkha”
    • Extinction of the three poisons raga (passion), dvesha (aversion) and Avidyā (ignorance)
  9. Psychosis

    • “a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality”
  10. Samadhi

    • A state of deep meditative absorption, intense focus, and non-dual consciousness where the observer, the act of observing, and the observed object become one
    • Samadhi is used to develop Sati manipulation
  11. Sati

    • Mindfulness or awareness; measurement of oneness with self and “The Cosmology;” all living and non living things possess Sati
    • Think of Sati as the mind (spirit) and the mind as the essence of being
    • Flow of Sati proportional to the level of awareness within each realm; meaning, the first complete enlightenment is the most essential / powerful
